Dermot Carroll

Dermot was the senior team captain in 2012. He has Senior Championship medals from 2004 and 2009 when he clipped over his memorable point late on from corner back to really signal that we were home and hosed against Roslea. He won a MFC and an SFL Division 1 in 2002, and has been a very reliable, steady, and perhaps underrated performer for ten years now. It is not until you look at the medals he has won that you appreciate his service to the club.

NAME: Dermot Carroll

AGE: 28

FAVOURITE POSITION?

Happy enough anywhere but if I had a choice it would be No. 6.

FAVOURITE HARPS PLAYERS FROM THE PAST (YOU ARE ALLOWED THREE)

Francy McKenna (Purely for the curly hair circa '95, and to wind Paddy up!).

Collie Ditch Carroll for his no nonsense approach to defending.

Neville McGrath for the amount of games he won us single-handedly at underage level.

FAVOURITE HARPS GAME AND WHY?

It has to be our first Minor Championship success vs Roslea, after a replay in 2002. In the first game my only memory is of Neville McGrath blessing himself before turning and coolly slotting home a penalty with the last kick of the game to take us to a replay.  We were 7 points down at half time.  In the replay we were 6 points down in the second half.  Terry Greene scored a sublime goal from wing half back and Paul McGowan came off the bench and scored 1-1 (I think!) to see us over the line.  I have a great photo of myself,   Danny Ward and Cathal Jones which was taken after the final whistle that says it all!

FAVOURITE CURRENT FERMANAGH PLAYERS? (YOU ARE ALLOWED TWO)

I was very impressed with Eoin Donnelly last year. He has a great engine and his work rate is second to none.  Good to see some new blood coming through.

As you didn’t stipulate between the men and the ladies teams I would have to say Lynne McFrederick.  I’d never hear the end of it if I didn’t!!

FAVOURITE FERMANAGH PLAYERS FROM THE PAST? (YOU ARE ALLOWED TWO)

The Killarney kid aka Johnny McGurn.

Mickey Lilley.

FAVOURITE INTER-COUNTY FOOTBALLERS? (TWO ALLOWED)

Sean Marty Lockhart was my favourite growing up.  Rarely did anyone get the upper hand on the Derry man. The other would be Tomás ó Sé

WHAT ANNOYS YOU IN THE GAA?

Don't get a man started! Poor/inconsistent refereeing, long breaks in the season with no games, the lack of fri eve or sat games, not seeing a football in pre season, men yapping at the referee and each other, larger counties with more teams finishing their season before Fermanagh, driving from Belfast to train, listening to Stevie Burns giving out about driving from Belfast to train!, I could go on....

PAT SPILLANE OR JOE BROLLY?

Brolly for me.

MARTIN MCHUGH OR JARLATH BURNS?

Neither!  Stick to RTE...

Steven Gerrard.

The Dubliners
