Our man in New York is Sean Jones. Sean was a crafty scoring forward in the seventies, and
he had a couple of memorable summers home playing with Patsy Burns and Cathal Duffy in the eighties as well. As well as his scores, it was the clever play which other men could work off that marked him out as top class. We were lucky enough to get a few minutes in his company when he was home recently and he was only too happy to chat about football. Sean has a great interest and is up to date with all the Harps and Fermanagh news.

FAVOURITE FERMANAGH PLAYERS FROM THE PAST?
Peter McGinnity was the best player around.
John Donnelly of Coa and Trillick.
Fionn Sherry of Newtown.
FAVOURITE INTER-COUNTY FOOTBALLERS? (TWO ALLOWED)
Frank McGuigan was the greatest, I was lucky to play with him over here.
I would have a lot of respect for Pat Spillane.
Dinny Allen of Cork was a great player and I got to play with him too. Our styles of play would have been similar.
WHAT ANNOYS YOU IN THE GAA?
Analysis and criticism of people doing their best.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOOTBALL IN NEW YORK COMPARED TO HOME IN IRELAND?
Definitely that games are more physical. Tight pitches make for some hardy games.
FAVOURITE OTHER SPORT / SPORTSMAN?
Still the soccer, and my favourite sports star is Georgie Best.
ADVICE FOR ANY FOOTBALLER?
Don’t let it take over your head. Just try your best and be honest when you go out on that field. You’ll get the big performance in the end. Be positive about yourself.
Soft Rock – Dr Hook would have been my favourite group. Yous have probably never heard of them.
Steak, Steak, Steak.
